Introduction: Health care facilities in the Czech Republic (CR) pay significant attention to the continual improvement of the quality of health care. The quality of nursing care can be measured by the specified quality indicators. Falls in hospitalised patients are monitored in the Czech Republic since 2002. They are from the point of view of nursing care the most common emergency situation. The aim of the present study was (1) to determine the number of falls in healthcare facilities in the Czech Republic and (2) to analyze the severity of injuries inpatients over65 years. Material and methods: The data are reported by the responsible personnel quarterly by 15th of following month. The obtained data are sent back to the coordinator of project Czech Association of Nurses (CAS) by the last day of following month. Monitored value is rated as the heath care quality indicator number of falls per 1000 health care days.
