Usage of Railway Model Controlled Digitally and Locomotive with Integrated Wifi-Camera in Exercise

The intention to buy a locomotive with an integrated Wi-Fi camera showed the need for a digitally controlled train station model, i.e. for switching from the analog model to a digitally controlled one. The railway model has been being developed at COPJ for several years and it has been extensively used in seminars. But current train and railway accessories as well as other possible extensions of a railway model are based on digital control only. Only a digitally controlled model opens a way to further model extensions and provides the options to extend our own existing railway model in an interesting and easy way. The integration of the model into teaching has proved to be very beneficial. It can be used efficiently in new courses of the upcoming accreditation. Now we expect the same benefits in utilizing the locomotive with an integrated Wi-Fi camera, processing the video taken by the locomotive, and train control. This paper describes the procedures of transforming the railway model and it presents primary verification of functionality of the mentioned locomotive. It explains procedures and intentions related to innovating the pedagogical process at COPJ. The tasks are targeted into several areas. Specifically, these include an option to create a control schema of a train path and the development of an application for model and train controlling. We consider an application for PCs or for mobile devices (Smartphones or tablet PCs). In addition, there are presented options and procedures of video processing. They will be deployed for the purpose of automatized control.
