The Village of Holašovice in the Context of South Bohemian Rural Architecture
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The preserved rural architecture of South Bohemia overwhelmingly reflects the unprecedented construction activities during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The transformation of villages usually maintained the principle of the spatial pattern of the settlements from the period of their establishment, most often the High and Late Middle Ages. The form of the village green, the preserved layout of individual farmsteads, including the documented stages of their development, and decorations of the facades create a uniquely preserved ensemble, to a certain extent preserving the typical form of the South Bohemian village at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries. The environment of the village of Holašovice is a vivid illustration helping us to understand the general development of the South Bohemian house and the spatial pattern of the South Bohemian village. The appearance of the gable facades should be seen in the context of preserved decorations of facades of farmsteads in the immediate, as well as more distant, surroundings. As in other regions of South Bohemia, the gables in Holašovice are a result of the skill and artistic feeling of the local, often unfortunately unknown, master bricklayers, whose works bear respective specific characteristics.
