Weesenstein Castle and its historic interiors
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This unique architectural ensemble, located near Dresden, was brought into prominence as the private property of King John of Saxony, the most famous Wettin of the 19th century. The two-winged castle, built during the Renaissance and reshaped during the Baroque, houses the grand living rooms. The representation rooms of cultural and historical importance and richly equipped with original furniture, decorative accessories and, first of all, precious historical tapestries are unrivalled. This makes Weesenstein one of the few castles in Saxony with an original inventory. The essay describes that many of original objects were restored in recent years: furniture, upholstered furniture, chandeliers and wallpapers. The work took place with numerous restorers, upholsterers, carpenters and gilders. A baroque gold leather wallpaper was expertly restored by specialists who previously worked on the wallpaper in Moritzburg Castle. A lot of experience was gained. Extensive research into the original interior and its use was carried out in archives and libraries. Some historical illustrations, photographies, inventories and historical castle guides are available, useful for the best possible reconstruction of the castle rooms.
