Celem niniejszego artykułu nie jest kompleksowe przedstawienie produkcji związanej ze Śląskiem czy z Polską. Taki projekt wymagałby wieloletnich i żmudnych badań. Głównym zadaniem jest zwrócenie uwagi polskiego czytelnika na kolekcję historyczną, zawierającą wprawdzie stosunkowo powszechne – w danym okresie – produkcje współczesne, które można spotkać również w innych bibliotekach, ale dzięki swemu wielowiekowemu istnieniu i działalności kolekcjonerskiej biskupów ołomunieckich skrywającą również woluminy opatrzone unikalnymi notatkami właścicieli lub dedykacjami. Zapiski te mogą w znacznym stopniu wzbogacić dotychczasową wiedzę na temat śląskiej lub polskiej kultury książki czy powiązań polityczno-społecznych od XVI do XX w. Są także odzwierciedleniem relacji pomiędzy środowiskiem czeskim (lub morawskim), śląskim i polskim oraz dowodem na istnienie wzajemnej wymiany kulturalnej realizowanej nierzadko poprzez przesłanie konkretnego dzieła do kromieryskiej biblioteki. Aktualnie opracowywana kolekcja stwarza zatem szerokie pole do dalszych badań w tym obszarze. Pomocne może okazać się także przeprowadzane elektroniczne katalogowanie i digitalizacja części zbiorów

The article introduces the research into the content of Kroměříž Palace Library through the prism of Polonica and Silesiaks. From the late 17th century onwards, it was the Olomouc Archbishopric’s main book collection. Initially, the paper presents a short history of the whole collection as well as that of its separate parts, namely the Lichtenstein library (the oldest section), the New Library (built in the mid-19th century, it contained incunabula and manuscripts), the Safe Library (1930s), the reference library and finally the forest administration library (19th century). Differences in the range of topics they covered and in times they were established affected the number and type of Silesiaks and Polonica preserved there. It can be noticed that prints from Wrocław predominate among the Kroměříž Palace Library’s resources, a fact which seems unsurprising, given that it was one of the most prominent centres of the former Bohemian Crown. Other Silesian towns like Nysa, Oleśnica or Legnica are scarcely represented in comparison. Yet more prints originated from an other crucial hub of the Bohemian lands at that time, namely, Cieszyn. Functioning in the boundaries of the same state, Silesian production attracted considerable interest by virtue of its close connections with the Czechs. Poland, on the contrary, did not draw so much attention. The preserved Polonica mainly come from Warsaw or Kraków with those from the latter increasing in number in the 19th century. In principle, Warsaw is represented by publications from the local Piarists’ print shop, and Kraków by books issued by scholars residing there or the city’s educational institutions. In both cases, the older works were written primarily in Latin, whereas in the 19th century, more and more Polish titles occurred. Although their number seems limited, books can be found in the Chateau Library that were signed by their authors for both the Kroměříž collection itself or for other people whose volumes were ultimately housed there. The Vatican historian Augustin Theiner should be mentioned as an instance here, because it is his collection that yielded books with dedications by Prince Władysław Czartoryski or Tytus Działyński.
