The contribution focuses on the issue of realization of stoves in energy passive houses. In the context of building airtightness, implementation of the stove is considered as a significantly weak element in the construction of energy efficient buildings. Conventional stoves and fireplaces disrupt the airtightness of the building envelope. The paper describes suitable types of stoves, materials of fireplace insert, types of fuel and connection possibilities to the heating system. The attention is paid to meeting the requirements of building airtightness using Blower Door Test (BDT), tightness of all elements of stoves, and the method of effective air supply to the stoves without reducing the performance of forced ventilation or heat recovery. Part of the contribution is devoted to the dimensioning of an appropriate performance of stoves and other measures, which prevent to overheating of the building and degradation of obtained heat energy. Photo-documentation of implementation of stoves characterizes frequent errors in design and execution. Characteristic details are resolved and evaluated in terms of potential thermal bridges in energy passive houses.
