"Only in the South of Bohemia during the 2007-2013 programming period, local action groups provided administration or participated in the implementation of many projects themselves. There were hundreds of smaller projects, all of them without significant difficulty. What can be understood by this statement? In spite of society-wide negative connotations, local action groups and the LEADER1 method have emerged as a way to involve citizens, businesses and municipalities in the process of supporting regional development and to prove that people in our countryside are not indifferent to traditions or the future. This is why the LAGs have been nicknamed ""LAGs as a rural development pathway"". The issue of the LEADER method and LAGs is currently experiencing an unusual double track in Europe. On the one hand, there is a factual decline in the use of this method (eg Slovakia, Ireland), on the other hand, in the conditions of the Czech Republic (hereinafter the Czech Republic), the importance of LEADER and LAG can be expected to increase. South Bohemian LAGs are an integral part of this trend and in the period 2014-2020 they have the opportunity to obtain considerable funds. Therefore, this article will focus on a closer assessment of the past (2007-2013) with a specification in the territory of South Bohemia, will demonstrate the contribution of LAG activities to rural development. On the contrary, their role in the coming years will basically be predicted, as this programming period has just begun."
