Uses of gamma-radiation detectors within the development of new on-site measurement techniques of contaminated cattle
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Considering animal contamination after a nuclear accident, on-site measurement techniques of cattle are being broadly developed. Within the ongoing research, selected portable spectrometers were tested with two real cow phantoms. The first phantom consisted of PMMA slabs with planar radioactive sources and was used to estimate the radiation attenuation in the cow's body. Thereafter, the second phantom was created on the basis of a paper-mache garden sculpture. The sculpture was sawn and filled with PMMA desks and radioactive sources. The phantom was used to show how to measure cattle on-site. For the CZT detector, a mathematical model of the cow was additionally proposed in order to perform Monte Carlo simulations. The research was supported by project VI20192022128 'Optimalization of system of in-situ measurements and remediation in agriculture' by the Ministry of the interior of the Czech Republic. The work was presented at the European Radiation Protection Week 2022 (9-14.10, Estoril, Portugal).
