    The National Radiation Protection Institute in Prague organized a proficiency test (PT) on natural radionuclides measurement in samples characterized as NORM within the Czech legislation: industrial waste and residues with potentially increased content of natural sources of radiation. Handling, measurement and assessment of NORM samples is regulated by law, and can only be performed by laboratories authorized by the State Office for Nuclear safety (SUJB). Furthermore, the laboratories must follow a guideline document issued by SUJB. Four NORM materials were prepared: wastewater, sand filter, ash, and zircon flour. These materials are common in Czech environment and have different radiochemical properties, ensuring representativeness as well as diversity. The radionuclides to be reported were selected in accordance with the guideline document by SUJB. In solid samples, determination of six natural radionuclides was requested: 238U, 226Ra, 210Pb, 228Ra, 228Th, and 40K. For wastewater, gross alpha and beta were requested, followed by determination of several supplementary radionuclides. The reported results were evaluated with respect to assigned values, using relative deviation and zeta scores as performance indicators. A total of nine laboratories participated, and the overall evaluation of this PT will not only provide feedback on individual laboratory practices, but also offer valuable insight into common difficulties associated with following SUJB's guidelines: these will be useful during the next revision of the binding document. The PT was carried out according to the standard on Statistical methods used in proficiency testing by interlaboratory comparison (ISO 13528:2022).
