A Novel Approach for Reducing Running Injuries: One-Year Longitudinal Study with Randomized Controlled Intervention Trial

  • Annotation in Czech

The project aim is to assess whether a targeted intervention can reduce the incidence of running injuries (RRI) and alter running biomechanics in runners using standard running shoes. A one-year follow-up will be conducted in 210 runners randomly assigned to three groups: (1) minimalist shoe walking (MIN), (2) strength training (ST), and (3) control (CON). The MIN and CON groups will complete an 8-week gradual step-increasing program, the MIN group in minimalist shoes, and the CON group in their shoes. The ST group will follow an 8-week strength training program targeting foot and lower limb muscles. Biomechanics and running economy will be measured at baseline, post-intervention, and after 1-year follow-up in randomly selected 150 runners. All runners will complete four questionnaire surveys assessing psychosocial factors influencing RRI incidence and report training-related parameters and RRI throughout follow-up. The study will provide novel insights into non-invasive strategies for RRI prevention and their impact on running biomechanics and psychosocial factors.
