This chapter is concerned with translation quality. It approaches the concept from the point of view of academia and industry; it discusses both human and machine translation, and aspects of quality involving product, process, and service approaches. Quality evaluation is broached, as well as quality analysis. The professional and industry contexts explored involve language services providers, institutions, and freelance translators. In terms of methodology, this diverse landscape is surveyed using available literature and consultations with stakeholders. The approach is descriptive, using observation, personal records, comparisons and contrasts, as well as commentaries on observed features. As regards the structure of the chapter, key concepts are introduced, and terms are defined in Section 2. Section 3 outlines the historical perspective, including an overview of available research. Section 4 covers current practices in the field of translation quality. In Section 5, emerging themes and the future outlook are presented, followed by a conclusion.
