Higher Education Graduates in the Czech Republic: Selected Issues

  • Original language description

The publication deals with higher education graduates employability in the Czech Republic. It uses data from an international survey of graduates REFLEX (that was conducted in the Czech Republic in 2006) as well as follow up national graduate surveys REFLEX 2010 and REFLEX 2013. Almost 7, almost 9 and more than 34 thousands respondents took part in these three surveys respectively. The existence of these three surveys allows the issue of transition of graduates in the labour market to be analysed in development and in the international context. The publication has two core parts. In the first part, after the introduction, which includes basic information about used data and methodology of REFLEX projects, follows a part, where the main developments of higher education in the Czech Republic is described and the main results of all three surveys are presented. The second part deals with regional mobility, modes of teaching, professional success and relationships between these variables. Regional mobility is defined in terms of moving between regions in three moments of live - at age 15/16, during higher education studies, and 4 to 5 years after graduation. Modes of teaching are defined in terms of three dimensions - theory, vocational training and individual learning. Finally professional success is described and assessed by characteristics of pursued job - income, socio-economic status, required level of education and job satisfaction.
