c-Myb-induced migration/invasiveness of breast and colon cells in vitro is not associated with enhanced lung colonization in vivo
Original language description
Metastasis formation and spread of primary tumors are the leading causes of death in cancer patients. To develop new treatment strategies, a clarification of the processes involved in the metastasis development is required. The c-Myb transcription factoris essential regulator of stem-progenitor cells in bone marrow, colon epithelia and neurogenic niches in brain. Malfunction of c-Myb results in malignancies of several types. The role of c-Myb in regulation of proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis is well established. In contrast, current knowledge on the role of c-Myb in control of metastasis formation remains poor. We have reported recently, that c-Myb promotes migration/invasion of human breast cancer MDA-MB-231 cells via upregulation of cathepsin D and MMP9. This study shows that overexpression of c-myb enhances migration and invasion of murine breast cancer 4T1 cells and murine colon cancer CT26 cells in vitro as well.
