The formation and evolution of student English language teachers’ professional identity
Original language description
This chapter explores the processes involved in the forming and evolving of pre-service English language teachers’ professional identity. Firstly, the theoretical framework of professional identity is outlined to examine how student teachers construct their professional identity in the initial phases of their professional development. Then it presents the analysis of student teachers’ written reflections about their beliefs, values, and commitments towards being a teacher. Finally, the chapter identifies basic types of aspects that may contribute to the development of the professional identity and suggests further implications for improvement of the teacher education study programme.
