Determination of soluble solid content in apples using near infrared spectroscopy
Original language description
Near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy using both a laboratory spectrometer Antaris II and a handheld MicroPhazir spectrometers was applied to predict the soluble solids content in two apple varieties, ‘Gala’ and ‘Red Jonaprince’. A calibration model was designed from the NIR measurements that associated the results to the invasive analysis. A better coefficient of determination for calibration was observed for results obtained with the Antaris II instrument compared with the MicroPhazir. The highest coefficient of determination R2=0.9659 (RMSECV = 0.432) for calibration was found for variety ‘Gala’ using Antaris II. It contrasted with the worst value of the coefficient R2 = 0.4760 (RMSECV = 0.677) for calibration calculated for variety ‘Red Jonaprince’ using the MicroPhazir instrument.
