The effect of Chlorella vulgaris inclusion in goat diet on goat milk composition during lactation.

  • Original language description

Poster. Goat milk composition monitoring is important in dairy technology and nutritional quality assessment. Factors that may predominantly influence milk composition are lactation stage and feed composition. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Chlorella vulgaris (green algae) supplementation in goat feed on milk’s composition during lactation. Treatment and control group (each of 15 animals) were assembled by random division. The feed in the treatment group was enriched with granulated Chlorella v. The goat milk composition and milk yield have been studied in 2013, from May to September. The milk was analyzed for fat, protein, lactose, and non-fat solids and fatty acid profile. The results showed that Chlorella v. supplementation had no effect on milk fat, protein, lactose, and milk yield, but influenced the fatty acid profile. Chlorella v. supplementation caused both a significant increase in the concentration of C20:4n6 and a decrease of C18:1 (P<0.05). Significant changes were found in chemical composition of goat milk during lactation in both groups.
