The importance of digital competencies for entering the labour market from the perspective of HR managers

  • Original language description

We live in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment where technology has significantly impacted the world around us over the last 30 years. Digital technologies affect all areas of our lives - personal, family, work... The development of digital technologies creates new jobs (e.g. data analyst, application developer, cybersecurity expert...) and slowly eliminates others (warehouseman, postman, bookseller...). This goes hand in hand with the requirements for the employees - readiness for a modern working environment and the ability to use digital technologies effectively. Not only employers need to respond by adapting their HR processes, but also educational institutions need to focus on developing the digital skills of their students. And finally, we, as individuals, must be part of the change. The need for transformation and development in the field of digital technologies has been significantly accelerated in recent years by the COVID-19 pandemic. This has highlighted not only the need for greater digitization and modernization of companies but also the importance and development of digital competencies. The focus of this paper is on the attitudes of human resource managers towards the digital competencies of graduates entering the labour market, evaluation of the current situation, identification of employers' basic requirements and ways of their evaluation and further development. The core element of the paper is the results of qualitative research using semi-structured interviews with selected HR managers. The results show that HR managers have certain expectations of their employees in terms of digital skills. Most of these HR managers also check these skills during the hiring process. All respondents also systematically develop their employees' digital competencies, as they see them as key factors for success and competitiveness in today's digital world.
