In this study, the presence of ornithine, tyrosine, histidine, lysine and glutamate decarboxylase genes were investigated in pathogenic E. coli strains using newly established and published PCR methods. The aim was to find a high-throughput tool for identifying the presence of the related biogenic amines: putrescine, tyramine, histamine, cadaverine and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in gram negative bacteria. The alignment of the multiple sequences and analysis of conserved sequences in the studied genes was carried out using ClustalW and BLAST programs, the primers were designed with the Primer3 software. 26 E. coli strains isolated from raw cow, sheep and goat bulk milk samples and cheeses obtained from 6 farms and 7 companies were evaluated. 81 % strains were positive for ornithine, 70 % for tyrosine, 96 % for glutamate decarboxylase PCR test, 23 % samples were positive for histidine and 54 % for lysine decarboxylase test.
