Investigation of Information Sharing Behavior in Work Teams
Original language description
The paper focuses on specific aspects of information behavior, especially on information sharing in work teams. A pilot empirical study based on the research sample of 85 respondents has been carried out. Our research examines how important it is for individual employees to share information, whether they always have the information they need to accomplish their task, and how much they are affected if they do not get it in time, how important informal information, and its author, are for them. However, the main focus has been on the deliberate concealment of information, whether respondents have any experience with it and what reasons may have played a role in this behavior. The results show that a majority of respondents has all the information needed for their work, they confirm the importance of informal information and, also, how is its author. Finally, as for the deliberate withholding of important information, there is a general opinion that around 40% of employees exhibit this behavior. The possible reasons and the ways to suppress this harmful behavior are discussed.
