The secretome of facultative intracelullar bacterium Francisella tularensis

  • Original language description

The gram negative coccobacillus, Francisella tularensis, is a facultative intracellular bacterial pathogen which naturally causes the zoonotic disease tularemia.Recently, Francisella pathogenicity island (FPI) encoding several genes required for both intracellular survival in macrophages and virulence in the mouse infection model was described (Nano et al., 2004). Furthermore, gene clusters encoding proteins required for either a type I (transporters containing ATP-binding casettes) or a type II secretion systems (type IV pili system) were detected in F. tularensis genome. The key factor for the survival the bacterium in hostile intracellular milieu is then its ability of iron acquisition. From this point of view Fur protein and a number of genes thatmay be regulated by Fur were predicted in genome of F. tularensis SCHU S4. The aim of this work is the analysis of alteration of culture filtrate protein patterns of Francisella tularensis subsp. holarctica strain LVS induced by iron rest
