Charollais sheep breeding in Czech Republic
Original language description
In 1990 was proportion of mutton breeds only 0,6%, in 2000 it is already 30% from total breed structure kept in Czech Republic. The highest number of sheep is of Charollais breed. This breed was imported to the Czech Republic for the first time in 1990,it was 20 heads. Number of 6268 Charollais sheeps was joined to production control made by breeding company in 2000, i.. e. 18,7% from total number of breeds and 50% from total number of mutton sheep. Number of 1149 heads of sheep was joined to this production tests in 1998. These parameters were reached in the best herd : fertility on ewe 214,3% and average daily weight gain of lambs 377g. Present results in period 10 years were evaluated and it is possible say that this breed reachs very good parameters in reproduction and lambs have very good growth from born to 70 days of age.
