Influence of abiotic stresses on the physiology of sprouting plants

  • Original language description

Only statistically significant results are presented. The availability of water and efficiency of water utilisation for germination is one of the basic factors which influence field emergence rate. Water uptake is essential for enzyme activation, shortly, for using of reserve seed storage material. The large variability in water use efficiency of seeds of different species and cultivars from different conditions exist. The obtained results confirmed also in all prersented experiments statistically significant influence of environmental conditions on the traits of seed (P=0.05). The traits of seeds have substantial effect on the tolerance to analysed abiotic stresses (r=0.86**) in the filial generation and water utilisation during germination. Very similar results between spring and winter wheat were obtained (r=0.78*).
