Original language description
Cereal grains are important sources of energy in feeding mitures for monogastric animals. Regarding its high content in grain (60-75 %), starch is the main energetic component of cereals. In Europe, wheat is commonly included in poultry diets as an energy source in high amounts of up to 600 g kg or more. Generally, starch digestibility of cereals (especially in wheat) is high. Nevertheless, certain digestibility differences have been recorded, particularly with samples from Australia with coefficients from 0,80 to 0,99. Wiseman also mentioned that starch digestibility is mainly influenced by other factors such as endogenous enzymatic system of monogastric species (e.g. activity of alfa-amylase) and by content of other grain components (e.g. non-starch polysaccharides, anti-nutritive components etc.)
