The goal of the experimental part of this work is the systematic investigation of the semi-crystalline lamellar morphology of polyolefin samples. In the modeling part of this work the spatially 3D structure of spherulites consisting of lamellae was reconstructed. The reconstructed spherulite allows us to calculate effective diffusivity of the semi-crystalline polymer. Diffusion in compact semi-crystalline polyolefins and in polyolefin melts is measured in our laboratory. However, this project is not finished because the quantitative comparison of the morphology of semi-crystalline polyolefins with the reconstructed spherulite hasn?t been made yet. That is, the statistical characterization of AFM images of etched polyolefin samples hasn?t been performedyet. Samples of PE were etched in oxygen plasma for various times to selective remove layer of amorphous phase and to uncover the crystalline structure of lamellae.
