The structure and gas-phase ion chemistry of 2-hydroxyoxol-2-ene cation-radical(1) have been studied by experiment using accurate mass measurements, isotope labeling, metastable-ion and collisionally-activated dissociation mass spectra and by RRKM calculations on G2(MP2)potential energy surface. Namely, elimination of CO molecule from metastable 1 has been addressed. Molecular rearrangement involving multiple consecutive hydrogen migrations explained unusual deuterium kinetic isotope effects on the CO elimination.
