Biocompatible copolymer-based nanoparticles are gaining attention as anticancer drug delivery carriers due to their ease of production, ability to improve drug solubility, and targeted release properties. Stimuli-responsive hybrid copolymer nanoparticles, particularly those responsive to pH and reactive oxygen species (ROS), are promising for enhancing specificity in drug delivery. Examples include arylboronate ester-protected polymer amines and ferrocenylbased copolymers, which release their cargo upon ROS-triggered transformation. Coordination polymers (CPs) offer unique benefits due to their metal-organic composition, including biodegradability and potential therapeutic activity. CP-based nanoparticles, combined with radionuclides, show promise in theranostic applications, especially in delivering Auger electron emitters for targeted radiation therapy. Furthermore, ROS-responsive nanoparticles could be valuable in drug-free therapeutics, sensors, and anticancer vaccines, with their ability to interact selectively with cancerous or inflamed tissues.
