The Utilization of Digital Technologies in Times of Pandemic and its Impact on Improving the Pedagogical Digital Competence

  • Original language description

The COVID-19 pandemic was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. The World Health Organization declared the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern in January 2020 and a pandemic in March 2020. The responses to the coronavirus pandemic have resulted in significant global economic and social disruption. Recommended preventive measures including social distancing caused that public areas including educational institutions have been partially or fully closed. The company therefore had to adapt to this situation and conduct all communication remotely, most often using digital technologies. Teachers had to change their educational strategies from day to day and adapt to distance - online teaching. The aim of the article is to find out how the level of pedagogical digital competences (PDC) changed during the first and second waves of the pandemic. We focus on basic digital skills, advanced digital skills and professional skills in digital technology. A quantitative methodology was used for the analysis, the research tool was a questionnaire distributed on social networks, the number of respondents was 415. The results of the research survey show that in all interviewed areas teachers show a very significant or significant improvement in pedagogical digital competences. Compared to the first wave of the pandemic, in the second wave of the pandemic teachers report an even more significant improvement in basic and advanced pedagogical digital competences. In the area of professional digital competences, greater improvement was demonstrated during the first wave of the pandemic.
