    This paper deals with the results of a questionnaire survey that was carried out at the Department of English, Faculty of Education, Palacký University in Olomouc in June 2010. The first- and second-year students were asked about their opinions on practising and developing their listening skills, also with regard to the materials, aids and technology they use and would like to use in their lessons in the department. The modernisation of the listening courses was a primary goal of the 2010 FRVŠ project "Inovace předmětu Jazykové dovednosti - poslech".
