Changes in Czech Higher education after 1989
Original language description
The Czech higher education underwent the process of depoliticization of education rooted in the Marxist-Leninist ideology after 1989; the state educational monopoly was removed and private schools were founded; the offer of education widened, both at thelevel of study majors and degrees of education; and last but not least the autonomy of public higher education institutions was supported. The structure of study corresponds to the European higher education system. The objective of the text is to describe the situation of the Czech higher education compare it with the situation in the EU from the perspectives of its reaction to new education markets, diversity, telematics, quality, economical productivity, limitation of sources and globalization. The sources of data used were publications dealing with tertiary education, annual reports of the situation in the Czech higher education, expert studies, statistics of the Czech Statistical Office and OECD.
