    Disruption of communication skills is a specific symptom of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and, together with deficits in reciprocal social interaction and imagination, shapes the clinical picture of this neurodevelopmental disorder. In this paper, theaberrations affecting non-verbal communication are discussed, which usually become the initial and striking symptoms that parents and professionals (especially speech therapists and paediatricians) record early in childhood. The main goal is the detection, analysis and comparison of non-verbal communication in persons with ASD, from the perspective of speech therapists working in the Ministry of Education and Health of the Czech Republic. Theoretical aspects and compilations of domestic and foreign investigative research will be described in the introductory part of this paper which forms the basis of the following part.
