Original language description
Teacher efficacy is the degree of teachers’ beliefs that they can control student achievement and motivation. It is not sufficient to prepare pre-service teachers of mathematics only in areas of content and pedagogy. The purpose of this paper is to determine mathematics teaching efficacy beliefs among pre-service elementary students of mathematics at the Faculty of Education Palacky University Olomouc in Czech Republic. We used for pre-service teachers Mathematics Teaching Efficacy Beliefs Instrument (MTEBI) that has been developed by modifying the original Science Teaching Efficacy Beliefs Instrument (STEBI-B). Items were changed to reflect future mathematics teaching beliefs. We collected data from 53 pre-service elementary school teachers. The present survey was only one of the many parallel researches and surveys the objective of which is to comprehensively map the perception of the self-efficacy and preparedness of students of Teaching at the 1st Level of Elementary School for teaching mathematics.
