Employment Policy with Focus on Ageing Population In the Czech Republic as a Service of General Interest
Original language description
The aim of this paper is to provide analysis of employment policy with a special respect to ageing population in the Czech Republic in comparison with the situation in EU. To fulfil the aim of the study a detail analysis of the service of general interest and service of general economic interest focused on employment policies in the Czech Republic and in EU was provided. The analysis was based on literature and databases review. The Czech Republic imposes standards regarding working conditions to protect employees, but more could be done. As an EU member, the Czech Republic has transposed EU legislation into the national labour law. The country is additionally bound by other international conventions in this area, in particular ILO conventions. Through its National Programme of Preparation for Ageing (2013-17), the Czech Republic intends to raise companies' awareness of age management tools for creating working conditions and trends that help older workers stay in the labour market as long as possible. The employment policy in the Czech Republic is nowadays facing a big challenge connected to ageing population. The response of the main policy makers could be seen in adaptation of the main strategic documents to the new goals settled by European Union 2020 Strategy. The approach of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs is focused on the keeping workers approaching retirement age in employment. This is achieved by two different tools. The passive employment policy tools focus on providing unemployment benefits which duration is substantively prolonged for people older than 50 years.
