Variability and heritability of tocol content in spring barley grain
Original language description
The content of vitamin E and its isomers was determined in grain of the F2 generation of spring barley hybrids and the respective parental forms. Six isomers with biological activity of vitamin E were found: ?-, ß-, ?-, ?-tocotrienols. The hybrids and parents were a statistically significant source of variability of the content of all isomers and vitamin E. The content of vitamin E and of all tocols fluctuated within the range of 16.0 and 30.4 mg.kg-1, and 62.8 and 114.1 mg.kg-1, respectively. The highest values were found in the variety Washonubet and the lowest in Kompakt. Of all the tocols the highest proportion was that of tocotrienols (83.6 %), the proportion of tocopherols was 16.4 %.In terms of tocotrienols, 60.5 % went to ?-tocotrienols and 37.8 % to ß?-tocotrienols.
