The variability and correlations between the content of vitamin E and its isomers in hybrids of the F2 generation of spring barley.
Original language description
The variability, heritability and correlations of the content of vitamin E and its isomers were studied in caryopses of the F2 generation of spring barley. The level and variability of these essential substances were compared with the parental forms (parents) for which the following were selected: donors of the increased content of cereal dietary fibre, the so-called waxy varieties Wabet, Wanubet and Washonubet, the latter two were nudum forms the same as line KM 1057, and hulled varieties of malting barley, Kompakt and Krona. The content of vitamin E and all tocols (T and T3) in the dry matter of grain fluctuated within the range of 16.05 - 30.38 mg.kg-1 and 62.85 - 114.45 mg.kg-1, the T : T3 ratio was approximately 1:5. The main proportion were a-T3and bg-T3 (i.e. 50.4 and 31.8%, respectively). The highest content of all tocols and vitamin E was found in caryopses of the variety Washonubet which carried over this higher concentration into the progeny, although the hybrids did not re
