Influence of conservation methods and ensilaging additives on starch degradability.

  • Original language description

In the present study, the technology and ensilaging additives effects on starch degradability were examined. Dry silage samples were analysed after 8 h inocculation in the rumen. Starch degradation was examined in mais silage, crushed corn silage (CCS), corn cob mix (CCM), in wet barleycorn silage and in barley groats. The results indicate that the starch degradation depends, besides starch content and composition, also on the respective ensilaging technology, fermenting process quality, additivum enclosed and hygienic feed quality. Important is also the dry matter content. The starch degradation in crushed corn silage of 610 g matter was 56.8%, whereas in CCM of 729 g dry matter, it was lower, viz 55.38%. It can be stated than the crushed corn silage has the starch degradability 27.99 % relat. higher than CCM. It is seen that a higher dry matter content has a damping effect not only on fermenting process but also on degradation extent.
