Effect of dietary linseed and sunflower oil on cholesterol and fatty acid contents in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fillets

  • Original language description

Rainbow trouts (Oncorhynchus mykiss) were fed a diet containing 2.5 or 5 % linseed (L) or sunflower (S) oil (L2.5, L5, S2.5, S5), or a mixture (5 %) of both oils (LS5). Control group (0) was fed a commercial feed mixture. After 75 days of fattening 16 individuals from each of six groups were selected to estimate the content of nutrients in flayed fillets. Meat of controls contained less polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) than meat of fish fed the feed mixtures L5, S5 and LS5. When only L was used, troutmeat contained less linoleic acid and more a-linolenic acid (P<0.01) than after feeding a diet containing S. Fish receiving S showed significantly higher levels of n-6 PUFA in their meat than all other groups. The content of n-3 PUFA was significantly (P<0.05 - 0.01) higher in the group receiving L than in that fed the S alone. In the group L5, the n-3/n-6 PUFA ratio in meat was significantly (P<0.01) higher than in all other groups.
