Hemostatic profile in dogs with gastric dilatation-volvulus syndrome or hemangiosarcoma: preliminary results.
Original language description
Background: Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is a frequent complication of diseases such as gastric dilatation-volvulus syndrome (GDV) or hemangiosarcoma (H). Different pathogenesis of DIC in expected in these diseases with different alterations in hemostatic profiles. Objective: The aim of this study is to describe and compare alterations in hemostatic profiles in dogs with GDV or H. Methods: Blood was collected from dogs with GDV (n=12) and H (n=6) at admission into tubes containing citrate and EDTA. Platelet count (PLT), prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), fibrinogen (FBG) and D-dimers were measured and thromboelastography was performed in the samples. Results: Obtained results were: median (GDV vs. H) PLT 186 vs. 74*109/l (min-max, 89-325 vs. 50-111*109/l), aPTT 21.7 vs. 21.2 s (18.4-32.4 vs. 19.9-28.6 s), PT 10.7 vs. 11.1 s (9.7-14.8 vs. 8.7-12.4 s), FBG 1.2 vs. 2.24 g/l (0.2-2.0 vs. 1.8-4.9 g/l), D-dimers 0.4 vs. 0.6 (0.1-1.6 vs. 0.3-2
