    In this study, the cytotoxic effects of 14 diverse TiO2 NMs on THP-1 macrophage-like cells were measured by 3 viability assays. Variables affecting cytotoxicity were chosen using linear regression. Except concentration, polydispersity index (PDI) in media measured within 1 hour after preparation was selected as a variable affecting cytotoxicity: lower PDI, indicating stable dispersion, resulted in higher cytotoxic effects. Particles of size between 20-60 nm were cytotoxic while smaller and larger ones were not. Shape (particles/fibrous) and crystal form (anatase/rutile) did not show different cytotoxic effects. Overall, cytotoxicity of nano-TiO2 in THP-1 cells was low.
