The performance of hexagonal geogrid with large apartures beneath railway ballast bed in laboratory conditions
Original language description
Comparative laboratory study has been done at Czech Technical University in Prague, Faculty of Civil Engineering to learn how new geogrids perform under railway ballast versus former biaxial geogrids. Several models of railway sub-structure have been studied in special laboratory box under cycling loading. The tests proved that the new generation of hexagonal geogrids overperformes former biaxial geogrid generation in the function of the effective stabilisation of the railway ballast layer. The explanation of this observation layes in highest radial stiffness and almost circular distribution of the load in the plain of the geogrid in case of hexagonal type.
