Influence of Intake Mixture Temperature on the Low Load Engine Behavior at Optimal Ignition Timing

  • Original language description

Within the framework of research and development (R&D) activities on a four-cylinder internal combustion (IC) spark-ignition (SI) engine a study on the engine in a low load state has been performed. The article deals with properties of the SI engine working with increased mixture temperature at very low load taking into account influence of ignition timing (AL1Z). Setting of the -control loop was invariable during the measurements ( was kept near to 1). Based on the measured data, the increase of the mixture temperature results in an increase of the effective efficiency even at the optimal value of the ignition timing in certain range of the very low engine load. Increase of the engine efficiency was achieved by the increasing of the burning velocity of the preheated mixture and the decrease of the work for charge exchange. Simultaneously, the mechanical efficiency was increased in range of the low engine load, in which efficiency increased by heating.
