How Does the Space Where E-Golem Walks Looks Like
Original language description
The paper deals with nature of multivariate data space. It is shown that the geometry of multivariate space is rather strange from some points of view. This strange geometry is best visible on the problem of e-Golem looking around him. He will find thatwhat is near and far in two or three-dimensional space may be much different from what it is possible to see in multivariate space, i.e. distance from particular point changes its nature with dimension. He also finds that in the data set of reasonable size in high dimension all or nearly all points are influenced by famous boundary effect. All these findings are worse when e Golem leaves Euclidean space and tries to live in space with L1 metric. It is shown in this paper that for a uniform distributionof points in an n-dimensional Euclidean space the distribution of the distance of the i-th nearest neighbor to the n-power has Erlang distribution.

Příspěvek se zamýšlí nad relativním vnímáním prostor vysoké dimenze a diskutuje problém nejbližších sousedů. Diskutuje také problém okrajového jevu, který je zvlášť významný, pokud je prostor vysocedimenzionální.
