MOOC Courses for Developing the Digital Competencies of Economics Teachers

  • Original language description

Despite substantial efforts, a concerning disparity persists between the digital competence possessed by teachers and the level of proficiency required to foster the digital literacy of their students. Massive open online courses (MOOCs) hold potential as a viable solution to address the pressing and imperative demand for the initial and continuous education of teachers in this domain. Nevertheless, there is currently a paucity of evidence regarding the effectiveness and efficiency of MOOCs in cultivating digital competencies. This research note focuses on teachers (N = 16) and students (N = 16) who were part of a convenience sample (Online Supplemental Appendix (OSA) Table 1, OSA Table 2). The aim was to create MOOCs for the development of digital competencies and for digital technology use in teaching as well as to analyze factors affecting their effectiveness and rate of successful completion.
