Mapping the cultural heritage of human activities in forests

Anotace anglicky

The main objective of the project is to complete information in the field of applied research of national and cultural identity with a focus on mapping the relics of the historical activities of man in the forests. This is a completely new approach – linking forestry with heritage conservation and archaeology. 1. Specifically, the aim is to identify, document and present anthropogenic elements in the forests and the occurrence of coppices in the Drahany Highlands (including Moravian Karst) with regard to the possible threat to this type of cultural heritage by current forest management. Nowadays, a large bark beetle calamity has affected the forests of the Czech Republic, so the topic of threatening and damaging anthropogenic elements in the forest is more than a current topic.2. Another objective of the project is to elaborate two certified methodologies related to the anthropogenic elements and coppices, with proposals for their identification and protection. The methodologies will describe the process from data collection (using historical maps as well as aerial laser scanning data) to their processing and presentation in the form of specialized maps with specialized content. Non-destructive archaeological research, a modern method of data processing of airborne laser scanning and targeting of solutions in forests did not solve the existing methodologies.3. To publish new project benefits in professional periodicals, articles in proceedings and also through the project web portal. 4. Ensure the education of both professional and common public by organizing a conference and exhibition with a critical catalogue. In summary, the project will contribute to supporting the cooperation of experts in the field of heritage conservation, archaeologists and foresters. The project outputs will contribute and support efforts to maintain sustainable anthropogenic elements in the forests for the purpose of protection and management of our cultural heritage.

Zhodnocení výsledků projektu

Cílem projektu bylo doplnění a ucelení informací v oblasti aplikovaného výzkumu národní a kulturní identity se zaměřením na mapování reliktů historické hospodářské činnosti člověka v lesích. Jednalo se o zcela nový přístup – propojení lesnictví spolu s památkovou péčí a archeologií. Konkrétně bylo cílem identifikovat, zdokumentovat a prezentovat antropogenní prvky v terénu (milíře, staré cesty, lokality historické těžby surovin, objekty zpracování surovin, zaniklé vesnice, mohyly a další) a výskyt pařezin na území Drahanské vrchoviny (včetně CHKO Moravský kras), s ohledem na možné ohrožení tohoto typu kulturního dědictví současným hospodařením v lesích. Projekt byl plněn dle schváleného harmonogramu. Projekt zaznamenal pozitivní odezvu v odborné veřejnosti. Lze konstatovat, že všechny cíle projektu byly úspěšně splněny.
