Architectural and Festive Lighting in the Context of Historic Buildings and Spaces

Anotace anglicky

The project is focused on the care of cultural heritage, buildings, and territories with historical values. It arises in response to the rapidly increasing number of implementations of the lighting of the facades of historical objects, which often do not respect the genius loci of a given space. The aim of the project is to establish suitable parameters, adequate for illuminating historical objects in the context of the possibilities of current lighting technology and requirements for energy savings and environmental protection. These findings will be summarized in a methodology supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. At the same time, it expressed interest in its use in the practice of state monument care. In the project, a number of parameters studies and laboratory measurements will be carried out. Objective measurements of colour, the influence of light routing, contrasts on the surface of illuminated objects and objects relative to their surroundings will be made. Thanks to the use of modern LED sources, current possibilities of light technology will be assessed. Laboratory findings will be verified in the application site (NKP Vyšehrad). The measurements will also include a subjective assessment of the visual comfort of the observer. The concept of the newly designed lighting will be verified in distant views. At the end of the project, the overall concept and its parameters will be validated in other environmental zones and subsequently summarized in the methodology. The project also results in three functional prototypes of architectural illumination of a cultural monument within the application area and professional publication. The long-term goal of the project is to increase the quality of lighting of the buildings. It is about preventing the over-illumination of the outdoor space at night, the creation of excessive contrasts reducing visual comfort and violating the eye's adaptation to the nocturnal environment.
