National and Cultural Identity of Czech Minorities in Ukraine from the 19th to 21st century in movable Cultural Heritage of the Czech Republic

Anotace anglicky

The aim of the project is to implement applied research developing, preserving and disseminating information obtained from archival documents and 3D objects, which will shed light on the specific and exceptional cultural heritage associated with the history and present of Czech communities in Ukraine with emphasis on the Volhynian Czech community. The project maps their arrival in this area, integration in the new homeland and re-emigration waves during the 20th and 21st centuries. It will enrich the existing knowledge about expatriate communities in today's Ukraine, as well as bring the publication of a comprehensive specialized professional database, which is in great demand from the general and professional public and the descendants of Volhynian Czechs. It can also be used for education. This is the first comprehensive effort for interdisciplinary cooperation of three scientific institutions dealing with the issue professionally. The National Museum preserves 3D objects and photographs, which it acquires through acquisition activities. The National Archive acquires, processes and makes accessible archives related to the topic of Volhynian Czechs from the years 1860–2021 from the funds of official and private provenance. The Institute of Ethnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences has been collecting materials related to the continuous research of Czech communities in Ukraine since the 1950s from an ethnological perspective. During the project, these documents will be supplemented with digitalization, collection of oral history, as well as access to sources from other institutions and collectors. The main results will be a public database related to re-emigration to Czechoslovakia from Volhynia in 1945–1947, a specialized interactive map, the production of a documentary divided into 12 thematic sections and an exhibition with a catalogue showing the hidden cultural heritage of members of expatriate communities. The project fulfils thematic priority No. 7.
