The relationship between the electoral competitiveness and authoritarian repressive strategies in hybrid regimes in Latin America
Anotace anglicky
Although the current research often points out at the presence of authoritarian elements in competitively elected regimes, only a little attention is being paid by the researchers to the analysis of influence and mutual interaction of these elements in current regimes, and that applies also for the international level. This project intends to fill this gap and find out how authoritarian repressive strategies and their mutual interaction affect electoral competitiveness in regimes combining democratic and authoritarian elements. The research will run through case studies of semi-democratic regimes in Latin America allowing for a middle-n comparison. The project employs a distinctive empirical focus. The results will be presented in a number of publications including the articles in the prestigious foreign impacted journals.
