Anotace anglicky

The topic of research is the contradictory relationship between the needs of the state and universities. In its demands from universities, the state emphasized professional qualifications and, to a lesser extent, applied research. On the other hand, according to the ‘Humboldt’ tradition the autonomous university committees were at the forefront of the humanistic attempt to accumulate pure knowledge (i.e. basic research) with a vision of cultivating society through the education of scientific students. The project analyzes the main line of contact and conflict between the state and the universities: the question of the influence of the state on the management and the management of universities 1849–1939; the output of the project will be three articles and one monograph.
