Glass in Czech lands from Gothic to Baroque according findings from Chrudim and Brno. The importance of regional production in the European context

Anotace anglicky

Rescue research in Chrudim (Hradební and Filištínská streets) and Brno (Panenská Street) is special not only due to the wealth of unearthed glass but also for the broad time horizon of the refuse pits. Glass found in them directly reflects the development of both glassmaking technology and shape typology, from the onset of systematic manufacture of glass in Czech territory (late 13th century) until the first half of the 18th century. Chemical analyses (XRF and SEM/EDS) and the comparison of typology will shed a fresh light on the historical development of glass in the Czech lands in comparison with the output of Transalpine countries (Germany, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia and Poland). Selected vessels will be restored for studying purposes. Model samples representing the Gothic, renaissance and baroque periods will be taken and their properties in melting and storage will be documented. The main outcome of the project ( apart from articles and presentations) will be a monograph dedicated to glass from Chrudim and Brno in the period of potassium glass manufacture in the Czech lands.
