On Cleft Ground. Die Wahrheit Magazine as Cultural (Political) Medium in Interwar Prague

Anotace anglicky

Despite its continuous program focus on essential issues of national, social and cultural order in Czechoslovakia and Central Europe, the Prague German magazine Die Wahrheit (1921-1938) has received almost no research attention. The aim of the project is to explicate its contents and impact within the public and intellectual field of the first Czechoslovak republic and abroad. The monograph will delineate the history of the editorial board, its communication networks and strategies. On the basis of content analysis the ideological, aesthetic and genre profile of the magazine will be presented. The book will describe how the magazine profiled itself as a pan-European, pro-Masarykian, Jewish and anti-fascist platform for social, economic and especially literary and art-critical issues; and give an account of the progress of local and foreign reception of the magazine from the beginning 1920s to the late 1930s. Preliminary examinations suggest that program development of the magazine cannot be described as a linear shift towards decisive Zionism.
