Building the “Terra Felix”. Establishment and Development of the Duchy of Friedland

Anotace anglicky

Albrecht von Waldstein (Wallenstein) and his personality have been part of many studies. That is not the case for his Duchy and its very unique constitution. Studying these has been neglected so far. Although it formally remained a part of the Czech Kingdom, it was excluded from the competences of Czech provincial authorities. Therefore, Waldstein ruled over his Duchy and its legislature undisturbed. The primary objective of the project is to conduct wide-ranging research of various historical sources, as well as to analyse the establishment and territorial/constitutional developments of the Duchy of Friedland. These efforts would be the first steps in expanding the knowledge about the Duchy. As part of the project, there will be several studies published - partially in Germany where interest in Wallenstein is also prominent. However, the main expected outcome of the project is the publication of a critical monograph, which would map the emergence of the Duchy of Friedland in the mid-1620s and its gradual development until the Generalissimo’s death in 1634.
